Are you a carer?
My name is Dawn Harvey, I just wanted to let you know that I have joined the team at Carer’s of West Lothian as Carer Development Worker, Primary Care, and I’m here to support you.
A carer is an unpaid person who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour who is elderly, disabled or ill and needs help to live at home. Sometimes carers are “hidden”. They can be parents looking after a child with an illness or disability. They may be caring for a parent or even “just” helping a friend or neighbour with day to day tasks. They may not see themselves as a carer, but if they are providing help and support on an unpaid basis, to someone WHo wouldn’t be able to manage alone, then you are a carer.
I am working closely with your GP practice to ensure that carers of all ages get the help and support they need, to help you do what you do best – care. We feel that caring for someone is an important and valuable role in the community. We also recognise that it is often a 24-hour job, which can be very demanding and isolating for the carer.
I can help by giving you access to a range of accurate information, from entitlement to benefits to breaks from caring. If things get tough and you just need to talk I can provide a listening ear either over the phone or over a coffee.
If you are a carer then please contact your surgery for more information or contact me direct on 01506 771750, I can send you some information or if you need a chat I can meet with you and see where I can help.
